She was graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas. After graduation, she earned an BFA degree from Stephens College in acting and she also attended the British American Drama Academy. Additionally, she spent six years with the renowned Dallas Theatre Center and one year with that theater's Encore Company. She began her acting career in theaters prior to her big screen debut. Her stage credits include "As You Like It""A Funny Then It Happened on the Way to The Forum" "Measure for Measure", and "Chicago" along with as numerous other productions. She stood out in Michael Cristofer’s HBO Telefilm Gia (1998), where she played opposite Angelina Jolie. This performance made her a favorite of viewers and critics alike. After that, she starred in the sci-fi time travel adventure Frequency (2000) featuring Dennis Quaid and Neil LaBute's highly anticipated Nurse Betty (2000) opposite Renee Zellweger, Elizabeth showed her impressive acting abilities. Elizabeth Mitchell has many credits for television series, theaters as well as films. She has continued to be an outstanding actor. During the filming of Frequency (2000), she injured her nose.
