Samantha Ponder Bio

Samantha Ponder (born December 11, 1985) is an American sportscaster who is the host of Sunday NFL Countdown on ESPN. Before hosting Sunday NFL Countdown, Ponder was a host/reporter for ESPN college football and also as an NBA sideline reporter. Ponder substituted Erin Andrews on College GameDay Saturdays at 10 AM ET on ESPN, as well as co-hosting the Saturday 9 AM ET edition on ESPNU. Ponder was the main reporter on ESPN's Thursday Night College Football, Jesse Palmer and Rece Davis from August 2012 to 2014. Ponder was also a guest on the ESPN-owned Texas-oriented regional network Longhorn Network. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Ponder was a student at Central High School in Phoenix. After high school, Ponder attended The King's College in New York City. She was in New York City when she applied for a hostess position at ESPN Zone. There she came across Ben Keeperman who is a college football manager, researcher, and mentor. This led to an internship with the network, which then led to the position of a research assistant for ABC-TV's college football studio show. She was transferred to Liberty University after Liberty's Sr. Sports Producer Bruce Carey offered her a job as a sideline reporter on the Liberty Flames sports television network. She completed her degree in 2009 and was employed as a reporter on the sidelines at Fox Sports Net and Fox College Sports for Pac-10 and Big 12 college football and basketball games. On July 7, 2011, ESPN's Longhorn Network announced that it had hired Ponder as a sideline reporter. Ponder along with Kevin Dunn and Lowell Galindo were the newly formed network's three first talent hires. After accepting her position with the Longhorn Network, Ponder relocated to Austin, Texas.
